Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) Study

How is a SIL study conducted?

A SIL study is conducting by the following process,

• 1Name Loop Identification
• 2Estimation of the Reliability of the Loops
• 3Estimation of the Consequences of Loop Failures
• 4Estimate SIL Level for different Loops and
• 5Estimating the Level & Assessing the Consequence

The standards that GVS Cibatech follows in conducting the SIL study are:

1. 1IEC 61511 – Functional Safety - Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industry Sector
2. 2IEC 61508 - Functional Safety of Electrical /Electronic / Programmable Electronic Safety Related Systems
3. 3ANSI/ISA-S84.01 – Application of Safety Instrumented Systems for the process Industries.

We will also use our past experience as well as a desk review of the results of HAZOP & HSE studies.

A SIL study will indicate if additional measures are necessary to meet the stipulated level of safety or any upgradation is necessary.
